Choosing a Social Media Agency in Newcastle: 8 Questions to Ask Before You Sign

Every social media agency has a nice slide deck. Every agency shows you a portfolio of their best work. Every agency claims to drive engagement. What separates a good social media agency in Newcastle from a mediocre one shows up in the answers to specific questions, most of which they'd rather you didn't ask.

Here are eight to put on the table before you sign anything.

1. Who is actually creating my content?

Some agencies sell you a senior strategist and then hand your account to a junior. Ask them by name who is doing the shooting, editing, writing and scheduling for your account, and get it in writing.

2. Do you shoot original content or use stock?

The answer should be original. A social media agency in Newcastle that leans on stock imagery is telling you their model isn't set up to produce content, which means yours will look the same as every other business they represent.

3. What's your monthly output, in concrete numbers?

"We'll manage your socials" is not a scope. You want to hear something like: 12 feed posts, 20 stories, 4 Reels, plus community management and monthly reporting. Vague scopes lead to vague results.

4. Who owns the content and assets when we part ways?

This is the question that catches people out. Some agencies retain ownership of the content, meaning if you leave, you lose everything they've made. Insist on ownership of all photos, video and assets from day one.

5. What's your contract length and exit clause?

Twelve-month contracts with no break clause are a red flag. Good agencies offer month-to-month, or a shorter minimum period followed by rolling monthly. If they're confident in their work, they don't need to lock you in.

6. How do you report performance?

Screenshots of Instagram Insights don't cut it. A serious social media agency in Newcastle sends a monthly report with follower growth, engagement rate, top-performing content, follower demographic trends, and, critically, how many enquiries, bookings or sales the platform generated.

7. Do you respond to DMs and comments?

Community management is often billed as "included" and then quietly not done. Ask specifically: within what timeframe do you respond to DMs? Do you handle comments? Do you flag serious enquiries to me directly, and how?

8. What happens if it isn't working after six months?

Any confident social media agency has a plan for underperformance. They'll say something like "we'd flag it at month three, propose a strategy shift, and if it still wasn't working we'd be having an honest conversation about whether we're the right fit." Vague reassurance ("that won't happen") is a red flag.

Trust the answers, not the pitch

Every social media agency in Newcastle can put on a good pitch. The answers to these eight questions are what tell you whether they're a partner worth investing in, or a well-designed website hiding a thin operation.

Take an hour, ask them all, and pick the agency whose answers you actually believe.
